At Falcon View Online, attendance is based on participation and academic engagement, not simply logging into a computer. Students are expected to complete assigned lessons and assessments and maintain regular communication with their teachers through approved school communication tools.

Mentor Teachers and the Attendance Coordinator review lesson and assignment completion each week to document attendance and help identify students who may need additional support.

Students should plan for the following weekly instructional requirements:

• Kindergarten: 25 hours per week
• Grades 1–6: 27 hours per week
• Grades 7–12: 30 hours per week

Students typically spend approximately three to six hours per day completing coursework.

For younger students, families should plan for adult involvement. Students in grades K–8 require support from a Learning Coach, although the amount of assistance varies based on the student’s age, independence and ability to work through the material. The handbook also states that K–8 students generally need adult supervision during the school day to provide a safe and secure learning environment.

High-school students are expected to work more independently, although their Learning Coach remains involved in monitoring attendance, progress and communication with the school.

Every Falcon View student has at least one Learning Coach, typically a parent or guardian. A Learning Coach helps monitor attendance, review lessons, provide age-appropriate supervision and communicate with teachers. A parent or guardian may also designate another trusted adult to serve in this role.

A Learning Coach supports learning, they don’t replace the teacher. Falcon View’s licensed teachers provide instruction and academic support while Learning Coaches help students stay engaged, organized and on track.

Students should expect live interaction as part of their Falcon View experience. Falcon View currently describes its program as including scheduled live lessons alongside independent coursework and teacher support. Students should be available during regular school hours for any required phone conferneces, or Google Meet sessions.

Yes, Falcon View’s flexible format can make travel easier to accommodate, but students still need to meet school requirements. Students follow the school calendar and remain responsible for required coursework and attendance.

If a family needs to switch a vacation day with a scheduled school day, the Learning Coach should communicate that change with the student’s Mentor Teacher in advance. Certain family trips may also qualify as excused absences.

Falcon View teachers and staff monitor student academic progress, participation and attendance. When a student needs additional help, Falcon View’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) team can help identify challenges, recommend interventions and strategies, monitor progress and adjust support as needed. Families are kept informed throughout the process.

The goal is to identify challenges early and work together to help students get back on track.

You don’t have to figure it out alone. Every Falcon View student is assigned a Mentor Teacher who serves as the family’s central point of contact. Mentor Teachers can help families navigate attendance, testing, basic technology concerns and other school questions, and connect them with additional staff when needed.

Depending on the need, students may also receive support from subject-area teachers, school counselors, MTSS staff, special education staff and other members of the Falcon View team.

Yes. Families may request a loaner Chromebook for their student. Students may also use their own device as long as it meets Falcon View’s minimum technology requirements.

Yes. Falcon View provides the curriculum and instructional program, and loaner Chromebooks are available upon request, but families are responsible for providing reliable internet access.

As a Minnesota public school, Falcon View participates in Minnesota’s statewide assessment program. MCA or alternate assessments are administered in designated grades and subjects:

Reading: Grades 3–8 and 10
Mathematics: Grades 3–8 and 11
Science: Grades 5, 8 and once in high school.

Minnesota also provides parents and guardians with a process for refusing participation in statewide assessments. Families who choose that option must complete the state’s refusal form for the applicable school year.

Yes. Falcon View Online serves students with a variety of learning needs and is committed to providing students with equal access to its educational program. Depending on a student’s individual needs, support may include accommodations, modifications, assistive technology, individualized services and other resources.

When a student enrolls, Falcon View counselors review the student’s academic records to determine appropriate placement and which previously earned credits can transfer. Depending on the situation, Falcon View may also use a portfolio review or competency process to determine whether credit can be awarded.

Yes. Falcon View offers both opportunities for eligible high-school students.

PSEO: Academically qualified students may participate in Minnesota’s Postsecondary Enrollment Options program and earn both high-school and college credit. Opportunities are available to eligible students in grades 10–12, with participation requirements varying by grade level and college.

Work-Based Learning: Falcon View also offers a structured Work-Based Learning program that allows eligible students to connect employment and career exploration with academic learning and credit. The handbook currently lists employment of at least 10 hours per week during the school year as a minimum program requirement, with limited program capacity.

Eligibility for Minnesota State High School League activities depends on current MSHSL requirements and the student’s school of enrollment. Rules affecting online-school students are changing beginning with the 2027–28 school year. Yes. Students who complete Falcon View’s graduation requirements receive a high-school diploma. The 2026–27 handbook currently requires 23 credits along with additional graduation requirements.
