Your Role in Online Education

Embracing Your Role in Your Child's Education

Does a parent have to be present for online school? The answer…not necessarily. Depending on your child’s age and level of independence, you may only need to monitor their daily learning or, you may need to provide more support.

As a Learning Coach, you’ll have a front row seat to your child’s education. You will also be at liberty to provide your child with support & guidance in partnership with our Falcon View Online teachers and support staff.

Hear from Falcon View Online School Counselor, Tenille Jennings about how she has observed how an online education has transformed students, helping them grow wings to SOAR.

At Falcon View Online, parents and guardians play an essential role as partners in their child’s education. In our Minnesota online school, families serve as learning coaches — providing structure, encouragement, and communication support — while certified teachers deliver instruction, feedback, and academic guidance. Together, we create a personalized learning experience designed to help every student succeed.

Learning Coaches at Falcon View

Supporting Your Child to SOAR

Only you truly know your child. As their Learning Coach, you are there to partner with our teachers, to help your child truly SOAR.

Learning Coaches generally are responsible for ensuring student attendance, checking in with teachers, assisting with assignments and supporting learning activities when applicable. Learning Coaches also help structure a students day ensuring they take appropriate breaks, etc. As a student gets older, the responsibilities of a Learning Coach shift. Students gain more independence in their learning, and so does the Learning Coach.

Now you may be wondering, do I have to be my child’s Learning Coach – No! If you are unable to fulfill this role, you can appoint any responsible adult to serve your child in this role.

You’re a guide, not a subject expert.

As a Falcon View Online Learning Coach, you are not expected to know every subject or teach every lesson yourself. Your role is to support your student’s learning by keeping them motivated, organized, and connected with their teacher – not replace instruction.

Create the foundation to SOAR.

Help your student set up a quiet, clutter-free learning area with good lighting, reliable internet, and supplies. Establish consistent routines and daily learning rhythms that balance structure with flexibility so your student can learn when they focus best.

You’re Part of a Team.

Falcon View Online teachers deliver lessons, provide feedback, and support students’ learning styles. As a Learning Coach, you’re often the first to notice when your student needs help, so don’t hesitate to reach out to their teacher to discuss strategies or extra resources.

Focus on guidance. Not answers.

It’s normal for students and families to feel challenged by certain subjects. Instead of solving every problem, encourage your student to ask questions, monitor progress closely, and use available tools (teacher help, online resources, planners, etc.) to keep struggles from snowballing.

You are not alone in this.

Connect with other Falcon View Online families, form study groups, and lean on community support. Shared experiences can boost confidence for both you and your student as you navigate virtual learning together.
