How much time can you expect to spend on school online?
Online school at Falcon View Online combines live instruction, independent learning, and real-life flexibility. While every student’s schedule is personalized, most days follow a consistent rhythm that helps students stay on track while still allowing flexibility.
Elementary Students (K-5)
Students in grades K-5 typically spend on average 25-27 hours per week on their academics. Students can expect to be online approximately nearly half of their day doing their coursework on a computer and the other half working offline.
Our youngest Falcons will need the most hands-on needs from their Learning Coaches. Learning Coaches can expect to be available to help their student through their schoolwork throughout the day – being available for any questions, ensure their student is understanding and finishing assignments, as well as connecting with their teacher on a weekly basis (if not daily).
Middle School Students (Grades 6-8)
Students in grades 6-8 typically spend on average 27-30 hours per week on their academics. Students can expect to be online approximately nearly three-quarters of their day doing their coursework on a computer and the other quarter working offline.
Middle School Falcons will need less hands-on needs from their Learning Coaches than our youngest Falcons. Learning Coaches can expect to be available to help their student approximately 2-3 hours per day – being available for any questions, ensure their student is understanding and finishing assignments, as well as connecting with their teacher on a weekly basis.
High School Students (Grades 9-12)
Students in grades 9-12 typically spend on average 27-30 hours per week on their academics. Students can expect to be online approximately over three-quarters of their day doing their coursework on a computer and the part of the day would be working offline.
High School Falcons do not need nearly as much hands-on interaction from their Learning Coaches because they are finding new levels of independence in their education. Whether that be through electives or our Work-Based-Learning Program. Learning Coaches can expect to be available to help their student approximately 1-2 hours per day overseeing their students coursework and attending teacher calls when necessary.
Supporting students to SOAR
What is a Learning Coach?
Only you truly know your child. As their Learning Coach, you are there to partner with our teachers, to help your child truly SOAR.
Learning Coaches generally are responsible for ensuring student attendance, checking in with teachers, assisting with assignments and supporting learning activities when applicable. Learning Coaches also help structure a students day ensuring they take appropriate breaks, etc. As a student gets older, the responsibilities of a Learning Coach shift. Students gain more independence in their learning, and so does the Learning Coach.
Now you may be wondering, do I have to be my child’s Learning Coach – No! If you are unable to fulfill this role, you can appoint any responsible adult to serve your child in this role.
